Definition of self employment

What is a business?
An activity qualifies as a business if your
primary purpose for engaging in the activity is for income or
profit and you are involved in the activity with continuity and
regularity. If you own a business alone and have not
incorporated, you are considered to be a sole proprietor. Your
business is referred to as a sole proprietorship. An
independent contractor is actually a sole proprietor. Your
business does not have to be your full time occupation; it can
be a sideline business.
